Wrapping up "Not A Fan" series

Wow!  What a series!  The high school group has completed the NOT A FAN series, and the middle school group will we wrapping it up this Sunday evening. 

The wrap up will be at Shattalon Church of Christ, in the Xample room, and will be facilitated by our high school group, being led by McKenzie Harden.

Let us know how this series has changed your relationship with Jesus.  We'd love to know!

September 9th, 2012!

Starting September 9th, we will begin a series that will run parallel to Patrick's Sunday sermons.  This is a great lesson, and will help you to become a FOLLOWER of Jesus, and not just a FAN.  The HS group will begin at 6:00 pm in the Xample room at Shattalon Church of Christ, the MS group will be meeting downstairs.

This is not a private event by any means, so bring a friend.  Spread the word, let the world know by your actions, that you are a follower of Jesus!

Xample - High School Camping Trip

That's right, we will be heading up to the rolling hills of central Virginia, to go camping and tubing on the Stanton river, on July 13th & 14th.

High School Group - Sumer 2012

The high school has wrapped up its normally scheduled meetings as we roll in to the 2012 Summer break.  We will not be officially meeting to go over lesson material, however we will still be getting together for various projects and events.

For example,

• We are partnering with Shattalon and Open Doors Church on a couple of events this Summer.  We are hoping to be able to find some new ways to love on the kids and their families in the community.  The first event that is coming up is our Soccer Camp.  It will be June 11 - 15.  We will be serving a free meal, teaching the kids to play soccer and having a devotion time to teach them about a God who loves them deeply.

In preparation for this event we would like to go out into the community around Shattalon Church of Christ and hand out flyers.  We will be going this Sunday Evening at 7pm.   Meet us at Shattalon in the parking lot and we will go out in teams to hand the flyers out.  This is a great way to start some conversations with our neighbors as well as develop some new relationships.

Sunday, March 25 (Service Opportunity)

This Sunday, March 25, the High School Xample group will be giving back just a little. A member of Bridges just purchased a home that has been vacant for approximately three years. While the home is in really good condition, the yard work has gone undone for quite some time.

I was able to get over and cut the grass earlier this week, but there are still a lot of leaves and branches that need to be brought out to the curb so the City of WS can come pick them up. This is where you guys come in. I need all your help in getting this done. If we all chip in, we can accomplish this in a relatively short period of time. Remember to wear "work" clothes, and closed toe shoes.

We will be meeting at Wally, Missy, & Rachel Coates' home at 3:00 pm Sunday afternoon, and then will go to the work site. When done, we will return to the Coates' home for dinner and our normal youth time, (6:00 - 8:00). Bring a change of clothes if you like.

2012 Christ In Youth (CIY)

It's that time of year again, where the temperature begins getting a little warmer, and we begin thinking about summer activities. This year, high school, and upcoming high school students will have the opportunity to attend the CIY Conference in Cleavland TN. Based on last years expenses, the fees for each child attend will be $420.00 We will be leaving from North Forsyth High School at 8:00 am on Sunday, July 22nd, and will be returning on the evening of Friday, July 27th.

The conference begins on Sunday afternoon, and runs through Thursday evening. This even is packed with great speakers, learning opportunities, worship time, and too many things for me to list here. For more detailed information, you may visit www.ciy.com/move, or contact Wally or Jenny. Additional information will be forthcoming over the next few months, in preparation for our trip. Bridges youth have attended this event for the past four years, and each year we are amazed at how much God changes their lives during the week long event.

To help you better understand the cost, I've tried to break down the $420 for you below.

Total Due - $420.00

CIY Admonition Fee $269 per person (includes lodging, breakfast, lunch, dinner for most days)
Rafting Event #1 $40
Rafting Event #2 $25
Transportation Expenses $86 (Jus an estimate, as we don't know gas prices, and total number of kids can change this number)*

* Last year we had a little money left over, so we used that money to treat the kids to a nice dinner on the way home.

In addition to the $420 money that will be collected up front, each child is encouraged to bring some spending money, for things like CD's, T-shirts, and the potential late night run to Chick-Fl-a & Taco Bell. They will also need to pay for their food while on the trip to TN and on the way back home. Meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are provided by CIY while at the conference.

If your child is planning on attend, please let me know ASAP, so I can make sure you have all the information that you will need in a timely manner. CIY requires a deposit to reserve our space, and all of those attending will need to be registered at the same time, to ensure that we are all placed together. These are NOT co-ed dorms, so this means all girls together, …. all boys together. Parents, you may breathe easier now!

I'm asking for the first deposit of $100 to be turned in to me by April 1st.

Please make your checks payable to Bridges Church, and put your child's name and CIY on the memo field, (or attach a sticky note so we get it applied to the right account). High School Xample Lock-In

The High School group will be holding a "lock-in" this Saturday night, from 9:00 pm until 7:30 am.

Everyone is asked to bring some snacks (enough to share), what ever you need to sleep, and possibly a game, dvd, etc. of your choice.

Also, remember to bring your 40 Days book, as we will be starting the night off with this week's lesson.

We will leave directly from Shattalon on Sunday morning and head over to North Forsyth for our service Sunday morning.

We had a great kick off to the 40 Days in the Word series this past week. Both the high school and middle school groups will be taking the week off due to the Superbowl this weekend. We will resume meetings next week as usual.

What a great time we all had at the Xample youth gathering Sunday night. We had 26 show up to have fun, and share the evening at the Shattalon Xample center.

Pizza, snacks, and games were shared by all.

worked hard to make this happen.

Xample - 40 Days in the Word!

The Xample High School group will begin the '40 Days in the Word' series on Sunday, January 29th. This is a series that the entire Bridges Church will be participating in. The series teaches us how to be more involved with our Bibles, and how to really learn and live God's word.

Patrick's sermon on the 29th will kick off the session, and all other life-groups will begin the series on February 5th. We are starting a week early, because we will not be meeting for a lesson on the 5th, (The high school group will be having a Superbowl part at the Coates' home that night).

During the '40 Days' series, we are asking for individual commitments from each of you. We are asking that you pledge the following:

• Come each Sunday night to Xample
• Bring your Bibles
• Read and study the memory verses every day

Now some of this may sound tough, but it really isn't. We aren't asking for you to spend hours each night, simply 10 to 15 minutes each day. If you commit to doing this for the 40 days series, I promise you will be hooked!

As for the course materials, we will be following along with, and expanding on each Sunday's service. There is an official '40 Days in the Word' workbook that the adult life groups will be using, however we have decided to pull only parts of the workbook for the Xample group. We will distribute to you each week, the material for the following week. (There is no need for each of you to purchase the workbook).

We will be playing games and getting to know one another. Please remember to keep your voices low as you enter, as there are other classes going on during this time, and we don't want to interrupt their meetings.

Also, bring your favorite snack, and plenty to share, and a couple of dollars to contribute to pizza.
